What is superconductivity?

09 Mar 2026

Inside these materials, electrons form “Cooper pairs.” At ultra-low temperatures, these paired electrons move through the atomic lattice in perfect synchrony -- experiencing no collisions and thus no energy loss. While this concept may sound abstract, applications of superconductivity are already integrated into our lives. For example, the powerful magnets in hospital MRI scanners used for precise diagnosis are built using superconducting coils.
