Professor Shixue Dou, PhD, DSc, FTSE, AM

Shixue Dou is Distinguished Professor of the Institute for Superconducting and Electronic Materials (ISEM) at the Australian Institute of Innovative Materials, University of Wollongong. He was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering in 1994. He was awarded a Ph.D. by Dalhousie University, Canada in 1984 and a DSc by the University of New South Wales in 1998, and three Australian Professorial Fellowships by the Australian Research Council in 1993, 2002, and 2007. He received the Australian Government’s Centenary Medal in 2003, the Engineering Excellence Award highly commended in 2006, finalist of Eureka Award for Science Leadership in 2010 and finalist of Eureka Award for mentoring in 2013, Vice-Chancellors Senior Excellence Award in 2008, Vice-Chancellor Outstanding Partnership Award in 2012, Life Achievement award from ASTS in 2018 and Australian Order of Member (AM) in 2019. He has supervised and co-supervised more than 100 Ph.D. students to completion and more than 60 postdoctoral and visiting fellow who have been widely spread within five continents. He is a highly cited researcher named by Thomson Reuters with citations of 41000 and h-index=94.

Professor Zhijian Jin, PhD

Zhijian Jin is a tenured professor in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He received his Bachelor (1987), Master (1990) and Doctor (1999) degrees from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Since 2010, he is the deputy director of state energy smart grid R&D center (Shanghai). In 2010, he founded the high temperature superconductor (HTS) group of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and now it is one of the largest groups in China focusing on HTS materials and applications. Since 2012, he is the director of Shanghai high temperature superconducting material and application R&D center. He is also one of key founders of Shanghai Superconducting Technology Co., Ltd.

Professor Qiuliang Wang, PhD

Prof. Qiuliang Wang is an Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Electrical Engineering, CAS. In 1986 he got his bachelor’s degree from Hubei University. He received his master's degree from the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991 and doctor of engineering degree from the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994. From 1996 to 1997, he worked at Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute. In 2000 he moved to Oxford Instruments as a senior engineer. In 2003 he became a guest professor at GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research. He returned to China in 2006 and worked at the Institute of Electrical Engineering, CAS. Dr. Wang is a world-leading researcher focusing on the fundamental theory and applied technology of strong electromagnetic equipment, and he has done a great contribution to the development of strong electromagnetic equipment in China.

Professor Jun Shen, PhD

Dr. Shen Jun received her PhD degree in materials science and engineering from Hebei University of Technology in 2009, since then she has devoted herself to research and development on refrigeration and cryogenics at the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and she starts to work at Beijing Institute of Technology as a professor from 2022. Dr Shen has authored 211 SCI papers, holds 51 national patents and two international patents. In 2019, she was selected as a Distinguished Young Scholar by National Science Fund. She serves as a subject editor for the Journal Applied Thermal Engineering on Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration. In 2018, Dr Shen won Chinese Young Women Scientist Award, and she was also honored Xplorer Prize in 2021.

Yue Zhao is a distinguished researcher of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, Professor of Special Appointment (Eastern Scholar), a member of the National Superconducting Standardization Committee, a member of IEC/TC90 WG5, a national outstanding doctoral dissertation winner. He graduated from Beijing University of Technology in 2009. He worked as a postdoctoral and researcher in Risoe National Laboratory and Danish University of Technology. He returned to China in July 2015 and joined the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The main research focuses on the preparation technology and application of high temperature superconducting materials.

Dr. Pierluigi Bruzzone, PhD

Pierluigi Bruzzone was born in Genoa, Italy, on November 9, 1955. He received the degree in physics from the University of Genoa, Genoa, Italy, in 1979, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from ETH Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland, in 1987, working on ac losses on high-current superconducting cables. He has been with the National Research Council of Italy CNR and the Swiss Institute for Nuclear Physics SIN. Then, he joined ABB, Oerlikon, working in the superconductivity department. In 1990, he joined the NET Team in Garching and later the Superconducting Coils and Structure Division of the ITER Project Central Team in Naka, Japan. Since 1997, he has been with the Swiss Plasma Center, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Villigen, Switzerland, where he has led the superconductivity section since 2001.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman Ten Kate, PhD

Herman ten Kate (Dutch, born in 1955) is emeritus professor at the University of Twente where he was educated and started his career in 1980; since 1997 occupying the chair for Industrial Application of Superconductivity. In addition he worked from 1996 until his retirement in April 2020 as magnet system project leader of the ATLAS Experiment, comprising the world’s largest operational superconducting magnet of three huge toroids and a solenoid. With his team he supported other detector magnet developments with coordinated R&D for proposed particle physics experiments like for the Future Circular Collider, linear colliders as CLIC/ILC, antimatter detector PANDA, neutrino detector BabyMIND and solar axions detector (Baby)IAXO. He continued his work at CERN as honorable member of the Experimental Physics Department. In July 2013 he received the IEEE lifetime Award for Continuing and Significant Contributions in the Field of Applied Superconductivity.

Bisong Cao was born in Jiangsu, China, in 1946. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in engineering physics from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1970 and 1981, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in materials science from Tokyo University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1989.,Since 1981, he has been with the Department of Physics, Tsinghua University, where he is currently a Professor. He has authored or coauthored over 100 papers in journals and international conference proceedings. His current research interests include HTS physics and HTS microwave devices and their applications. Dr. Cao is a Committee Member of the Superconductor Electronics Branch, Chinese Society for Electronics, and the Low Temperature Physics Branch, Chinese Society for Physics.

Dr. Valentina Corato, PhD

Valentina Corato graduated in Physics and received her PhD degree at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" with a thesis on superconducting microelectronic devices. Since 1999 she has developed expertise in the study and characterization of transport and magnetic properties at low temperature and in the presence of magnetic field of superconducting systems, both for the development of devices used in micro and nano electronics, and for power applications. Since 2007 she is a Senior researcher at ENEA Frascati, where she works on the design of superconducting magnets, the experimental characterization of superconducting materials, strands and cables for fusion. Between 2012 -2018 she coordinated for the realization of a large-bore superconducting facility for testing long superconducting cables in high field and variable temperature conditions and was the responsible for the cold tests of the JT-60SA Toroidal field Coils manufactured by ASG. Since July 2016 she is the Project Leader of the Magnet Work Package (WPMAG) of the European DEMO project, managed by the EUROfusion Consortium. Within WPMAG she defines the strategy and coordinates design, analysis and R&D activities of 12 European Research Units. She serves as technical Editor for the Journal IEEE transaction on applied superconductivity.

Professor Zizhao Gan, PhD

Zizhao Gan graduated from the Department of Physics of Peking University in October 1959, and was a graduate student in the Department of Physics of Peking University from December 1959 to January 1963, after which he stayed in the university to teach until now. His research interests include solid state physics and laser physics, and from 1960 to 1965, he worked mainly on semiconductor physics. From 1970 to 1978, he was mainly engaged in laser physics, conducting experimental and theoretical research on the development of carbon dioxide gas lasers and combustion gas kinetic lasers, and the frequency characteristics of gas lasers. From 1978 to 1982, he was mainly engaged in the research on the interaction between light and matter, and proposed the physical model of photodissociation of polyatomic molecules and the theory of coherent propagation of light in semiconductors. 1982 to 1986, he was mainly engaged in the research on the electronic states of solids, and made some contributions to the development of high-energy gas lasers in China. From 1982 to 1986, he worked on theoretical studies of the quantum Hall effect of impurities in semiconductors, insulator-metal phase transitions, magnetic polaritons in magnetic semiconductors, and electron transport in low-dimensional systems. From 1986, he moved to experimental and theoretical studies of high-temperature superconductivity.

Professor Yukikazu Iwasa, PhD

Yukikazu Iwasa was born in Japan. In 1962 he earned a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering, followed by a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1967. Starting In 1964, Iwasa joined the staff of MIT’s Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory FBNML, later the Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory. He has been there ever since. In 1964-1966 and 1967-1982 he was on the research staff, 1982-1996 he was Associate Head of the Magnet Technology Division, and in 1996 he became head of the Magnet Technology Division. In addition to this, he was a graduate research assistant in the MIT Electrical Engineering department from 1966-1967 and became a research professor at MIT in the 1980s, teaching courses in mechanical engineering and superconductivity. His research interests focus on low- and high-temperature superconducting magnet technology, and cryogenic engineering, culminating in the publication of several journal articles and a first edition textbook, Case Studies in Superconducting Magnets 1994, 2nd edition 2009. Award for Continuing and Significant Contributions in the Field of Applied Superconductivity 2011.

Professor Jiangang Li, PhD

Professor Jiangang Li received his PhD in Plasma Physics from the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990 for the research on superconducting magnetic confinement fusion. His research activities mainly involve design of superconducting tokamak device, tokamak operation, fusion physics, etc. He is chair of the Chinese Expert Committee on Magnetic Confinement Fusion Energy. He participated in the engineering design construction and experiments of the full superconducting tokamak device EAST. As a member of the ITER Council, he actively advocated and promoted China's participation in the ITER project, and was responsible for the implementation of ITER procurement package projects by ASIPP. He promoted the technical development of ITER conductor, PF6 coil, CC, magnet feeder and other superconducting components, and made great contributions to ITER. Currently, he led the design of Chinese Fusion Engineering Testing Reactor (CFETR), which promoted the R&D of high-performance superconducting conductor, CSMC and other superconducting components for CFETR. In addition, he is the chief scientist of the next-generation high-field superconducting magnet science and technology project, which focuses on basic physics issues of superconducting material, high-field superconducting magnet technology and applications. He is a member of China Academy of Engineering.

Professor Venkat Selvamanickam, PhD

Venkat Selvamanickam is a M.D. Anderson Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Institute at the University of Houston, Previously, he was the Chief Technology Officer of SuperPower Inc, a former subsidiary of Philips Electronics. He led SuperPower to multiple world-records, the longest thin film superconductor made and first to pilot manufacturing. He led the world’s first significant delivery of thin film superconductor tapes to build a power transmission cable in Albany-NY, which is the world’s first superconductor device in the power grid. At the University of Houston, Dr. Selvamanickam led a highly successful Department of Energy (DOE)-funded program to quadruple the performance of superconductor tapes and is now leading another DOE-funded program on advanced manufacturing of these tapes. Dr. Selvamanickam has published over 275 papers and holds 54 issued U.S. patents and over 100 issued international patents. He is the recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from the White House. He has also received three R&D 100 awards, the Superconductor Industry Person of the Year award, Wire and Cable Technology International Award and the IEEE Dr. James Wong Award. Dr. Selvamanickam is a Fellow of IEEE and the U.S. National Academy of Inventors.

Professor Vitaly Vysotsky, PhD, Dr. Sci. (habil.)

Vitaly Vysotsky graduated summa cum laude the Physics Department of Moscow Lomonosov State University. 1972. In 1986 he got his Ph.D. thesis on research of transient processes in superconducting magnets. In 2004 he obtained his Doctor of Science (habilitation) degree for researches on the topic "Stability and transitions to the normal state of superconducting devices - experimental research." He worked at the Lebedev Physical Institute, as well as, as a visiting researcher, in various foreign scientific centers, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Kyushu University (Japan), the Center for Nuclear Research in Saclay (France). Since 2002 he joined Russian Scientific R&D Cable Institute and since 2010, he is the Head of the Department of Superconducting Cables and Wires of this Institute. His main interests are experimental studies of physical processes in superconductors and superconducting devices, applications of superconductivity including superconducting magnets and cables. V. Vysotsky has been awarded by the Prize of the Government of Russian Federation in Science and Technology for “Development of innovative hydrogen and superconductive technologies for energetics”; by the Prize in the name of P.N.Yablochkov from Russian Academy of Science and he is the recipient of the IEEE CSC Award for Continuing and Significant Contribution in the Field of Applied Superconductivity. He is the Chairman of EUCAS 2021 conference in Sept. 5-9, 2021. He has published more than 200 papers, and has several patents.

Professor Yifang Wang, PhD

Yifang Wang is a Researcher at the Institute of High Energy Physics IHEP of Chinese academy of Sciences. He obtained his Ph. D. at the University of Florence in Italy, and subsequently worked at MIT and Stanford University. At IHEP, Yifang Wang led the design, construction and science effort of the BESIII experiment at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider for tau-charm physics. He initiated and led the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment which observed a new type of neutrino oscillation denoted by13. He led the design and construction of the JUNO neutrino experiment, and proposed the Circular Electron-Positron Collider CEPC as a Higgs Factory. He is a recipient of the Breakthrough Prize, Panofsky Prize, EPS-HEP prize, Nikkei Asia Prize, Pontecorvo Prize, Future Science Prize and the 1st grade National Natural Science Award of China. He is a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences, a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the US, the American Arts and Sciences, the Royal Society and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

He has been engaged in the field of superconducting electronics for a long time, and has achieved many innovative results in the fields of superconducting thin film and superconducting electronics device physics, superconducting sensors and detectors, superconducting integrated circuits and quantum devices. He has published more than 300 SCI papers in Science, Nature, Phys. Rev. Professor Hongwei Zhao, PhD

Hongwei Zhao is a research professor and deputy director of Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his PHD in accelerator physics and technology from Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Russia in 1995 and IMP in 1996. He has conducted research on highly charged ion source, electron cooler, heavy ion cyclotron and superconducting ion linac at IMP since 1991. Currently his work focusses on highly charged ECR ion source based on high field superconducting magnet and high intensity superconducting ion linac based on superconducting radio-frequency cavity. He is an academician member of Chinese Academy of sciences and a deputy director of High Intensity heavy Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) which is under construction.

Professor Zhongxian Zhao, PhD

Zhongxian Zhao graduated from the Department of Technical Physics of the University of Science and Technology of China in 1964, was elected as a member of the Third World Academy of Sciences in 1987, a recipient of the Chen Jiageng Science Award , and was elected as a member of the Academy of Sciences of China (academician) in 1991, and was awarded the 2016 State Supreme Science and Technology Award on January 9, 2017. Zhongxian Zhao has been engaged in long-term research on low temperature and superconductivity, exploring high temperature superconductivity research. He studied oxide superconductor BPB systems and heavy fermionic superconductivity, noted the influence of impurities in the study of Ba-La-Cu-O systems, and participated in the discovery of liquid nitrogen temperature region superconductors. Zhongxian Zhao and his collaborators have achieved important results: namely, the independent discovery of high-temperature superconductors in the liquid nitrogen temperature region and the discovery of a series of iron-based high-temperature superconductors above 50 K and setting the 55 K record.

Dr. VPS Awana had his Ph.D degree in High Tc superconductivity of Cuprates in 1994 from NPL New Delhi India, later he had several post docs/visiting Scientist assignments at Brasil, Germany, Australia and Japan before joining as a Scientist in NPL India in early 2003. Presently He is Senior principal Scientist in NPL India. Dr. Awana received several awards for his research work on superconducting materials including INSA (Ind. Nat. Sci. Acad.) Young Sci. medal (1998), MRSI (Mat. Res. Soc. India) Medal-2010, DAE (Dept. Atomic Energy) India Outstanding Investigator-2012 and more recently Fellow APAM (Asia Pacific Academy of Materials) -2015. He is one of the Co-editors of J. Sup. Novel Mag. and advisory board member of Mat. Res. Exp. Dr. awana has published above 450 SCI journal articles with above 7000 citations and h-index of 40. His expertise is mainly superconducting and other functional materials including Topological insulators and allied quantum materials.

Dr. Giuseppe Celentano, PhD

Giuseppe Celentano received the degree in physics from University La Sapienza, Rome, Italy, in 1993. Since 2000, he has been a Researcher with the Superconductivity Laboratory, Frascati Research Centre, ENEA, Frascati, Italy. His fields of interest are superconductivity and their applications. His research activities were carried out in the framework of several national and international projects. Professor Guy Deutscher, PhD

Prof. Guy Deutscher works on fundamental and applied aspects of superconductivity. He has focused on the properties of superconductors near the metal to insulator transition where, surprisingly, unusually strong superconductivity is observed in materials such as oxides and cermet, including high temperature superconductors and granular superconductors. Another research area is the development of superconducting tapes for power applications. The techniques used include thin film growth, transport, tunnelling, Tera-Herz and muon spectroscopy. Research achievements include the discovery that free spins are present in cermet films composed of nano-scale aluminum dots surrounded by oxide, consistent with a metal to insulator transition that is of the Mott type and a transition from conventional superconductivity to Bose Einstein condensation near the transition. Resonators based on such cermet have a large inductance and low losses, which is favorable for the design of elements for Quantum Computing. Another achievement is the development of superconducting tapes composed of cuprate thin films grown on sapphire ribbons, which are very promising as basic elements of fault current limiters that can improve network stability.

Fedor Gömöry received the Diploma in electrical engineering (Ing.) in the area of solid-state physics from Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, Slovakia, in 1976, then the Ph.D. degree from Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, in 1985, with the thesis addressing transient loss determination in superconducting magnets, and the D.Sc. degree from Slovak University of Technology in 1998 for the results in development of experimental methods for high-temperature superconductors. In 2009, Slovak University of Technology appointed him as an Associate Professor in the field of new materials based on his research dedicated to the interaction of electromagnetic fields with superconducting materials. In 1976, he joined the Institute of Electrical Engineering (IEE), Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, as a Research Engineer in the superconducting magnets group. In 1980, he spent one year at the Institute of High Energy Physics, Serpukhov, Russia, to participate in the development of apparatus for loss measurements in superconducting accelerator magnets. During his two years of sabbatical stay at Pirelli Cables, Milan, Italy, in the mid-1990s, he took part in the development of power transmission cables from the first generation of HTS tapes. Currently he is the project leader of the AC applications group in the Department of Superconductors at IEE. His research activities aim at the utilisation of superconductors in electric power. The group participated in several European projects aimed at the development of power applications from the second generation of HTS tapes. Currently his activities focus on the development of numerical simulation techniques for composite superconducting wires and optimization of wire architecture from the point of ac loss reduction and stability of device performance.

Professor Jean-Claude Grivel, PhD

Jean-Claude Grivel was born in Gene-va/Switzerland in February, 1967. He received the diploma and the Ph.D. degrees in condensed matter physics from the University of Geneva in 1991 and 1996 respectively. After a post-doctoral stay at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, and a two-year employment at Nordic Superconductor Technologies A/S in Brendby, Denmark, he joined the Rise National Laboratory now part of the Technical University of Denmark in Roskilde, Denmark in 2000. Since 2000, his principle research areas have been in ceramics processing, crystal growth and development of superconducting wires for power applications. He is an author or coauthor of 71 publications in refereed journals.

Dr. Md Shahriar Hossain, MD

Dr Md Shahriar Hossain is an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering, EAIT faculty at University of Queensland, Australia, and he is also affiliated with the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN). He currently leads a medium size research group within the Australian Centre of Materials Nanotectonics where he is the Co-Director. Dr Hossain has extensive expertise in the area of Materials Science and Engineering and one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of applied superconductivity. His research career has strongly supported by a number of awards, including the Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) from ARC, Strategic Research Fellowship from Australian Academy of Sciences, Priming and Bridging grant award from Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, the Vice-Chancellor’s Emerging Researcher Excellence Award and Vice-Chancellor’s Excellent Industry Partnership Award from University of Wollongong (UOW). His innovative research at the intersection of materials science, magnetism and applied superconductivity has already resulted in the elegant and efficient design of magnetic and superconducting materials for a range of applications including MRI, power cables, fusion magnets and chemical biosensors. He has devised novel strategies based on underlying physics and chemistry to design highly efficient nano-engineered materials and engineering devices which exhibit significantly enhanced superconducting and electromagnetic properties compared to current commercial counterparts.

Professor Kazumasa Iida, PhD

Kazumasa Iida was appointed as an associate professor at Nagoya university, Japan, in 2014. He received the doctor of engineering from Nagoya university in 2003. He spent the University of Cambridge from 2004 to 2007 as a postdoctoral researcher. After spending 3.5 years in Cambridge, he joined Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden as a senior scientist. His research experience covers a wide range of materials, involving the fabrication of Sr-ferrite magnets, the growth of garnet films for magneto-optical imaging, and the growth of HTS and Fe-based superconducting materials in the form of bulk and thin films. He has more than 200 research publications in international journals and conference proceedings with 3884 citations and H-index 35. He received several awards such as Cryogenic Materials Award for Excellence and Reviewer of the Year Awards 2016 (IOP Publishing, Superconductor Science and Technology).

Dr. Zhenan Jiang, PhD

Zhenan Jiang received a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from Chongqing University in Chongqing, China in 1994, and M.Eng., Ph.D. Eng. in applied superconductivity from Yokohama National University in Yokohama, Japan in 2002 and 2005, respectively. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Yokohama National University from 2005 to 2008. He joined the Superconductivity Group currently known as the Robinson Research Institute at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 2008 as Research Scientist. He has a strong track record in characterization of high temperature superconductors (HTS), especially in AC loss and has published more than 130 SCI papers. He is now Professor and is leading AC loss research in the institute. His recent research interests include AC loss characterization in HTS coils, transformers, flux pumps, magnets, and rotating machines. Prof. Jiang has been twice awarded the JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) invitation fellowship to Kyoto University under the NZ-Japan Scientist Exchange Program, in 2011 and 2015, respectively. Dr. Yong-Hamb Kim received his PhD in physics at Brown University, USA, in 2003 for the study on the thermodynamics of heat and energy flow in low temperature detectors. At present he is an Associate Director of the Center for Underground Physics at Institute for Basic Science in Korea and a professor of IBS school at University of Science and Technology in Korea. Dr. Kim worked as a Principal Research Scientist at Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science and collaborated as a visiting scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in USA. The major parts of his research experience and interests lie in the development and applications of superconducting sensors and detectors. In particular he is intrigued by new physics and various science applications based on novel superconducting detector technologies.

Since 2010, he has been with the State Key Laboratory of Rail Transit Vehicle System, SWJTU, where he is currently a Full Professor. Professor Muralidhar Miryala, PhD

Professor Muralidhar Miryala is the Head of the Materials for Energy and Environmental Laboratory at SIT, Tokyo. He has held several distinguished positions at SIT, including Deputy President 2016–2021 and Board of Councilor Member 2018–2023. Additionally, he served as Chair and Deputy Chair of the Operational Board for the World Technology Universities Network 2021–2023. His past and current experience revolves around transforming and reforming institutions as a high research ranking university among THE/QS Ranking. Interested in applications and technology of bulk single-grain superconductors; as a result, he had developed a new class of mixed LRE-123 system which can be used up to 15 T at 77 K and high temperatures up to 90.2 K. Prof. Miryala also developed a novel technology to produce a RE-123 type silver sheathed wire on the basis of solid state / liquid phase reaction. His intellectual mindset enabled me to produce a small type superconducting bulk magnet which is useful to magnetize both high-Tc superconducting materials and magnetic materials in a variety of industrial applications. Further, he also contributed to develop technology for the development of DC Superconducting Cable for Railway system applications. Prof. Miryala is an author and co-author for more than 500 publications in international journals and delivered over 370 oral presentations including plenary, invited, and poster presentations. He also holds several Japanese national and international patents. Dr. Dongkeun Park, PhD

Dongkeun Park received his Ph.D in electrical and electronic engineering from Yonsei University, Korea in 2009. He continued his research as a postdoctoral associate at the Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. He, then, worked at Health Medical Equipment in Samsung Electronics as a magnet engineer for development of MRI magnets. He is currently a research engineer at Plasma Science and Fusion Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 2016. He has performed researches in the area of NMR/MRI magnet applications, very-high-field magnets, and innovative HTS magnet technologies such as a reduced-insulation winding technique. He served as the technical editor of the IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity in 2018 and 2020, and as the guest editor of the special issue on ultra-high-field magnets, Superconductor Science and Technology in 2021.

Prof. Dr. Jinggang Qin, PhD

Prof. Jinggang Qin received his PhD in Nuclear Energy Science and Engineering from the Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012 for the research on large-scale superconducting cable in conduit conductors (CICC). He also made research on new type CICC for future high-field applications, and focuses on high temperature superconducting magnet technology and applications. As one of the principals for ITER conductor development project, he is responsible for the superconducting cable and jacket, including mechanical analysis, manufacturing technology and performance verification. For the next generation of fusion reactor, he is responsible for the development of high temperature superconducting coil based on Bi2212 and ReBCO, including material testing, conductor/coil design, manufacturing technology and performance analysis.

Professor Hyung-Seop Shin, PhD

Hyung-Seop Shin received the B.S. and M. E. degrees in Mechanical Eng. from Kyungpook Nat’l University in Korea, in 1981 and 1983, respectively. In 1991, he received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Eng. from Tohoku University in Japan. Since 1995, he has been with Andong Nat’l University in Korea, where he is a full professor at the Department of Mechanical Design Engineering since 2004. His research interests include the evaluation of mechanical and electromagnetic property in HTS composite wires, and the characterization of mechanical behaviors of metallic materials like bulk metallic glass and hydrogen materials. He is also interested in the ultrasonic welding of CC tapes and joints of coils and magnets. He has authored or co-authored 210 scientific articles published in refereed journals. He received Prizes for Outstanding Academic Achievement from The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME) in 2013 and The Korea Institute of Applied Superconductivity and Cryogenics (KIASC) in 2009, respectively. He is currently an editor-in-chief of the Progress in Superconductivity and Cryogenics (PSAC; SCOPUS indexed), which is the Journal of the KSSC. He is Convener of IEC/TC90 WG5 (Tensile test and electro-mechanical properties of composite superconductors). From 2018, he has served as an ICMC board member. He was served as Chairman of the 9th International Workshop on Mechanical and Electromagnetic Properties of Composite Superconductors (MEM18) held at Andong in June 2018.

She is a member of the Research Institute of Future Transportation and Cities. Her work focuses on the area of superconductor application in power systems, energy storage, high voltage transmission and transportation electrification. She is the Fellow of HEA and is the Outstanding Early Career Researcher from IOP.
